Disability Support South Tyneside

Holder House Community Interest Company

“Having choice and control over your own life is a human right. Many people in the community already have choice and control and we have to make sure that all people with a learning disability do too.” Government White Paper ‘Valuing People’

We’re on a Mission!

Our mission, (because we chose to accept it) is to offer disability support throughout South Tyneside. We’re here for people with learning difficulties, and disabilities, including autism support, offering access to work-based training that may lead to employment. To give them choice and control over their own lives, in reality – through deeds, not just words in a Government White Paper.

We understand great inequalities exist in the workplace and work based training. Whilst we can’t change the world (yet!), we can address this at a local level, in our community by offering disability support across South Tyneside,

We do this by enabling local people in South Shields and across South Tyneside to engage in activities in a therapeutic environment where they can participate and achieve results at a level and pace comfortable to them.

We provide access to meaningful and fun activities working with local community groups, enabling social integration and learning opportunities for everyone who joins us.

Behind the fun and activities there is real purpose. We don’t impose anything on our clients. We work with them to develop Person Centered opportunities to fulfill their ambitions to engage in work or activity, built around their personal needs and passions. Ultimately to support their development of professional and business skills.

At Holder House, we provide employment and volunteering opportunities for vulnerable adults, children and young carers througout South Tyneside..We help them have more independence, choice, control and community engagement.

Onwards and Upwards

We have enjoyed some great successes with our clients. You can read some of their stories in our case studies, with their kind permission. But, we don’t plan to rest on our laurels. Whilst we celebrate every milestone, however small or large, we won’t be standing still.

At Holder House we have great plans for the future:

We’re creating our own training centre. Increasing opportunities for personal choice and control for our clients needing disability support in South Tyneside, by developing real skills employers need and want.

We are planning to offer disability support to people with autism and extend our offer for children and the elderly across South Shields and South Tyneside.

Community Groups

No one is an island, including Holder House. We love what we do and want to do even more to offer disability support in South Tyneside. To do that we work in partnership with community groups in South Shields and across South Tyneside.

As part of our plans to ‘do more’ we’re always looking to work with other community groups and organisations. To establish working partnerships with organisations such as:

• South Tyneside Adult Community Learning
• Training in Care
• Creative Seed
• Epinay School
• Fellgate School
• Keilman Way School
• South Tyneside College.

Watch this space as we go for growth, better yet, why not get involved as a volunteer helper and/or fund raiser.  Call us on 0191 519 1699 to find out more.
